VOTING OPEN: 2019-20 MKRA Referee of the Year

As the season was cut short there is still the not-so-small matter of presenting the awards for the 2019-20 season. Our October meeting on Thursday 8th October will do just this.

However, we need input from our 2019-20 members - yes it’s that time again.

Below you will see a synopsis from each of the 2019-20 nominees for MKRA Referee of the Year - following the synopsis is the voting options for you to select from.

The winner of the award will be announced during our October - click here for full details.

Remember: only members of the association for the 2019-20 are eligible to vote.

The nominee’s are...

Ryan Dix

MKRA, Thank you for my nomination!

The 2019 / 2020 season was my first operating as a Level 3 Referee on Southern & Isthmian league, as well as Assistant Refereeing on National League N/S. Throughout the season I officiated as 4th Official on two National League Premier fixtures including trips to Woking FC & Barnet FC.

Prior to lockdown I also had the opportunity to officiate on Arsenal vs AS Monaco in the PL International Cup Knockout Rounds. My most enjoyable fixture of the 19/20 season was Hungerford Town FC vs Wycombe Wanderers FC where I was given the opportunity to step up and Referee the Quarter Final of the Senior County Cup.

I have been included on FA CORE for three seasons and feel privileged to have been retained again for the coming season.

Sarah Hobbs

First of all, I want to thank the association’s committee for this nomination.

Although my season, like all of ours, was cut drastically short, I am extremely happy and proud of what I have been able to achieve in the 2019-20 season. Moving to a new area and settling in was a bit daunting but I have been welcomed with open arms and in so have experienced some great matches and memories.

In 2019-20 I got to officiate MK Dons Ladies at the Stadium MK, which was a fantastic moment for me to referee on such a stage and occasion. I also had several extremely competitive matches on the FA Women's National League and Premier League.

After a decade, I also made my return to Sunday league football in the Wharfside Electrical Milton Keynes Sunday Football League and I was incredibly impressed at the level and standard of the matches being played within the league.

I also got to mix work with pleasure by taking up the position of Communications Officer of the MKRA and being able to input my professional knowledge to help the association grow and progress; with a new website and social media channels.

It does make me wonder what else would have happened had our season not been cut short, but I'm excited to see what the coming season has in store for me, and the rest of us.

Daniel Todd

I would like to thank the committee for nominating me for this award this year.

It was strange to end the season how we did but there was certainly some highlights and I am looking forward to the season ahead! The season just gone was my first year as a level 3 and what an experience it was!

Strangely I enjoyed the games I assisted on more than the games I refereed!

The highlight of the season for me was being at Kings Lynn Town vs York City, 1st vs 2nd in the National League South in front of 4,800 people(they obviously weren’t all there to see me)! A brilliant fixture to take part in!

Doom and gloom of the season ended swiftly when I received an email from the FA inviting me to officiate on the National League and PL2 as an Assistant Referee for the next season!

Faris Ahmad

A very brief summary of my season last year.

Achieved 7-6 promotion at the curtailing of the season. First season on the spartan league as an assistant referee, officiated on 11 games in a mix of division one and two games alongside a league challenge trophy game involving a div one and prem team.

Officiated many times at the MK Dons academy, ranging from U13’s to U16’s.

Officiated in the county cups on a few occasion, the highlight being the junior assistant to the quarter final of the Sunday cup at Willen Road.

Was a member of the National young referee development team, visiting ST George’s park twice for team meetings.
